“A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions” – Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr..

This is something we do every day, every day we learn something new, every day we experience something new. Sometimes we learn big things, but most of the time they are little things we can hardly remember at the end of the day. But as long as we keep trying to make the best of every day, we are stretching our mind.

“You know that if we did all the things we are capable of, we would literally astound ourselves”  – Thomas. A Edison.

And astounding ourselves is one of the miracles we can do ourselves. We should not live a life of mediocracy, but a life that is like a chain of pearls and that’s made of miracles. But to reach that level of succes we have to work hard.

And “The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary” – Mark Twain.

So how can we reach that level? What do we have to do to astound ourselves? Because we have to keep in mind that we ourselves are responsible for our own lives and nobody else. And what can we learn to grow? How can we become successful? All good questions,

but “Good questions outrank easy answers” – Paul Samuelson.

All the answers we need are inside ourselves. We know the answers, but we doubt ourselves. So we start to educate ourselves, we start to learn facts. Facts, that give others the impression that we have all the knowledge. And we use this knowledge to impress.

But “The aim of education is the knowledge not of facts but of values” – William Ralph Inge.

Knowledge is nothing but a decoy, it will distract you from the real issues in life. Life is not about money, although it can make it fun. Life is not about power. Life is about happiness, inner peace, real happiness.

You know  “Real happiness is cheap enough, yet how dearly we pay for its counterfeit” –  Hosea Ballou.

The counterfeit looks like all the things that money can buy. And when you have it, you have to spend even more in order to keep it. And we say to ourselves  “We have to do it differently”. And this is what we do every day, every week, every month and every year. And then we have New Year’s resolutions. And then we forget about them.

And you know what? “Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it” –  George Santayana.

We should be reliving our lives. We should let go of the past, but remember it. Know your mistakes, so you won’t make them again. Live your life with all the energy you have, with all the strength that is in you. Use your vitality.

Remember, “Vitality shows in not only the ability to persist but the ability to start over” –  F. Scott Fitzgerald. And you will have to start all over, more than once, that is what learning is about.

James Brown had a song, “If you don’t get it the first time back up and try it again”. It doesn’t matter how long it takes, as long as you keep trying. So stretch your mind, extend your dimensions.

But remember, “Life is 10 percent what you make it, and 90 percent how you take it” – Irving Berlin.

Enjoy.
